At Riverside Foods, Christmas has always been about more than just food. It’s a time for giving back, supporting those who work tirelessly in our communities, and helping to bring a little extra warmth and generosity to what can be a challenging time of year for many.
In the run-up to Christmas, we were proud to donate a turkey hamper to Severndale Specialist Academy in Shropshire, a school that plays a vital role in supporting children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities across the region.
About Severndale Specialist Academy
Severndale Specialist Academy provides education and care for pupils with a wide range of complex needs, including autism, communication difficulties and learning disabilities. With campuses across Shrewsbury and Shropshire, the academy works closely with families, local authorities and health services to ensure every child receives tailored support that helps them thrive both academically and personally.
Beyond education, Severndale is a cornerstone of the local community, supporting pupils’ wellbeing, independence and life skills, while also creating a positive, inclusive environment for staff who dedicate themselves to making a real difference every day.
A Wellness Raffle with a Festive Twist
Our donation, generously organised by Leigh Morris, Co-Owner and Managing Director of Riverside Foods, took the form of a turkey hamper which was used as part of a staff wellness raffle at the academy. The aim was simple: to recognise and reward the hard-working staff who give so much of themselves throughout the year.
The response was heart-warming. The teachers who won the turkey hampers were genuinely delighted — especially with Christmas having been just around the corner — and incredibly grateful for the gesture. A few turkey items were also set aside to support a further internal raffle, helping to raise funds for sensory toys for pupils in the new year.
Why Giving Back Matters to Us
At Riverside Foods, we believe businesses have a responsibility to support local causes and the people who strengthen our communities. We’re always keen to donate where we can; particularly to organisations that work with vulnerable individuals or support those who may be under extra pressure during the festive season.
Whether it’s helping schools, community groups or local initiatives, these moments of giving reflect our values and our commitment to people, not just products.
We’d like to thank Severndale Specialist Academy for the incredible work they do, and we’re proud to have played a small part in spreading some festive cheer to such a deserving team.
