When it comes to the star of your Christmas dinner, nothing quite beats the turkey. A true centrepiece, it brings friends and family together to celebrate the season with a hearty meal. Our halal turkey crown with a herb and orange topping is designed to make your festive feast even more memorable, offering both flavour and convenience.

Why Choose a Turkey Crown?

A turkey crown is a perfect solution for those looking for a simpler carving experience, especially when hosting smaller gatherings. Without the bones of the entire bird, it makes for easier and quicker carving, allowing you to serve your guests without any hassle. If you’re hosting a more intimate meal or simply want to simplify your turkey prep, a crown is the ideal option, giving you all the juicy, tender meat with none of the fuss.

A Festive Herb and Orange Twist

Our halal turkey crown is topped with a fragrant mixture of fresh herbs and zesty orange slices. This combination enhances the natural richness of the turkey with subtle, aromatic flavours that complement the meat beautifully. It’s the perfect marriage of savoury and sweet, making each bite a true celebration of the season.

Perfect Sides for Your Turkey Crown

A turkey crown offers the flexibility to pair with a variety of delicious sides. Here are a few suggestions to complement your festive feast:

  • Crispy Roast Potatoes: Roasted to perfection in turkey drippings or a generous drizzle of oil, these potatoes offer the perfect crunch.
  • Honey-Glazed Carrots and Parsnips: The sweetness of honey brings out the best in these root vegetables, complementing the citrusy turkey.
  • Seasonal Greens: Brussels sprouts, lightly sautéed with garlic and pancetta, or buttered tenderstem broccoli are excellent choices.
  • Stuffing: A rich, herby stuffing or one with cranberry adds a traditional touch.
  • Gravy: The turkey juices make the best gravy, rich and full of flavour.
  • Cranberry Sauce: A tangy cranberry sauce is the perfect accompaniment to balance the richness of the turkey.

Ingredients

Method

  1. Preheat the oven to 200°C/180°C Fan/Gas 6.
  2. Gently loosen the turkey crown’s skin by sliding your fingers or a rubber spatula underneath, being careful not to tear it. This creates space for the herb butter and orange slices.

Herb Butter & Orange Filling:

  1. Mix softened butter with fresh thyme leaves until combined. Spread this herb butter underneath the loosened skin.
  2. Arrange orange slices neatly under the skin, on top of the butter, to infuse the meat with citrus flavor.
  3. Place half an orange under the skin near the neck and add any orange trimmings into the neck cavity.

Season & Roast:

  1. Place the turkey crown in a small roasting tray. Rub it with a little oil, then season generously with salt and freshly ground black pepper.
  2. Roast for 1½–2 hours, basting every 30 minutes. Cover with foil if the skin starts to brown too quickly. Ensure the turkey is fully cooked by checking that the juices run clear and no pink meat remains when pierced in the thickest part.

Final Touches:

  1. Squeeze the juice of the remaining half-orange over the turkey about 15 minutes before the end of cooking. Roast uncovered to crisp up the skin.

Rest the Turkey:

  1. Transfer the cooked turkey to a serving platter, cover it loosely with foil, and let it rest for 30 minutes.
  2. Reserve the roasting tray’s meat juices for gravy or additional flavoring.

This recipe combines the richness of herb butter with the zesty brightness of oranges, creating a flavourful, juicy turkey that’s perfect for festive feasts or special gatherings. Resting the turkey ensures maximum tenderness and allows the flavours to meld beautifully!
